We tell students to write about what they know. When students write about what they know, they have energy, write with details, and use vocabulary appropriate for their topic. What do you know about? What do you have experience doing?
Here is my piece about what I know. 😀
My 95 year-old grandfather keeps his freezer stocked with Hiland Dairy vanilla. He has at least 3 gallons at all times.
My father keeps a variety in his freezer: Black Walnut, Rocky Road, Chocolate Almond, and of course, vanilla. Don’t forget to count the box of ice cream sandwiches and carton of drumsticks.
My freezer has chocolate, vanilla, and orange sherbet push-up pops. (But I’m not certain sherbet qualifies as ice cream.)
So it comes as no surprise to me that every night Sam begs to go out to get ice cream.
It’s in his DNA.

Side note, Sam just suggested we go out to get ice cream so I can post a photo on this post. He’s a genius!
